Schools are rife with numerous and various bacteria, viruses and fungi. The reason? Young students are not always the most diligent when it comes to maintaining hand hygiene, which makes it easy for germs and bacteria to spread from person to person.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of proper surface is disinfecting is more important than ever before. Along with following health officials’ guidelines, including proper hand washing, regularly cleaning and disinfecting high touch points is one of the best ways to reduce the spread of pathogens. The problem is that manually cleaning and disinfecting high touch surfaces in a single school would take hours, (let’s not even think about how long it would take to do an entire school district!)
A Case Study in Disinfection
A Southeastern Ontario school district participated in a study to find out just how much of a difference proper disinfection of school surfaces can make in reducing bacteria counts on surfaces. The study compared colony-forming units (CFUs) on desks before testing, after regular cleaning and then again after using electrostatic disinfecting technology. The Clorox® Total 360® system, along with a trusted disinfecting solution was used to test the impact of electrostatic disinfecting on CFUs.
While conventional cleaning and disinfecting procedures reduced the number of microbes on desktops, using the Clorox Total® 360® system as part of regular maintenance had the largest reduction in CFUs. On its own, the Clorox Total® 360® system reduced CFUs on desks from 106.4 to 62.9. In comparison, conventional cleaning, followed by using disinfecting technology, reduced CFUs to 54.2.
After conducting this study, one thing was clear: using the Clorox® Total 360® helped to reduce the level of bacteria on desks, making them safer for students. To learn more about the results, click here to download the case study.
